Sciacca is on the Mediterranean coast of Sicily, the one west of the island between the mouth of the river Platani and Belize. The position of Sciacca on the coast is very strategic. Founded in the seventh century. BC from Selinunte, who made their spa, Sciacca, is one of the oldest cities on the island. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans first, the Arabs later (they must also the name of the city, "Xacca") already appreciate the valuable benefits of sulfur springs. Sciacca is a spa town in its own right, among the oldest in Italy. Many choose to spend holidays in Sicily and Sciacca, with its blend spa, the famous natural caves vapor and sweat of Mount St. Calogero and healthy air that we breathe, is certainly a popular destination and amongst the most requested. It offers excellent accommodations ranging from hotels Sciacca, the residence, Sciacca vacation rental homes, up to typical solutions and economic such as b & b. But not only. Sciacca is considered one of the prettiest cities on the Mediterranean coast, with a belvedere overlooking the picturesque harbor, and offers its visitors many attractions ranging from its historical center, the beautiful coast and the bitter landscape. The town, in an amphitheater overlooking the sea, has topped the east by Mount San Calogero, whose groundwater flow, for a distance of approximately 6 km, the famous thermal waters. Preserves the medieval town plan which divided the city into districts, each of which occupied a strip of rock sloping towards the sea. Starting from the north is the neighborhood Terravecchia, a charming maze of alleys and streets. Between Via Licata and Corso Vittorio Emanuele are the most most beautiful palaces and churches. The most amazing is Palace Steripinto. Beautiful wide terrace of Piazza scandal, the salon of Sciacca, which offers a splendid view over the sea and where the cathedral stands. The area below the square towards the sea, is a very typical neighborhood, the neighborhood of potters, ceramists and fishermen, called the "district of the craftsmen." In high Sciacca stands the Castle Moon, located directly on the rough rock. Is inserted inside the perimeter of the ancient city walls built to defend the city, which is still possible to appreciate some of the remains and old doors. Sciacca is a seaside resort, spa and cultural heritage, but also handicrafts. We talk about the ceramics, today became the PDO, which is the flagship of artistic production and craft time, among the most important in Sicily and Italy. Plates, vases, amphorae, statues, tiles and other objects are exhibited and sold in numerous shops in the historic center. The ancient kilns have been discovered recently, suggesting that the art of pottery in Sciacca have begun in the fourteenth century, if not before.
