In 1949, a casino owner Benny Binion was proposed by Nick "the Greek" Dandolo. The Greek, a player well known in New York, wanted to play in a high stakes no limit poker against one opponent. Binion agreed to settle the game, with the condition that they play in front of audiences.
Benny called his old friend Johnny Moss, the only person who knew it would live up to the challenge. Moss dropped a game of poker and flew to Las Vegas, shake hands with the Greek and sat down to play. The game came to last 5 months and the casino met a lot of people. The Greek legend says that it lost approximately $ 2 million to Moss.
Finally got up your site with the famous words "Mr. Moss, I leave him. "Then they went upstairs and slept for 2 days.
Inspired by the huge impact that the event had, Benny Binion decided to recreate it in 1970. He invited some of the best poker players in the world to go to Las Vegas, most of whom were his personal friends and so was born the World Series of Poker. The first year seven players entered in the competition and the champion was Johnny Moss, again ensuring that feat the following year. Nobody then could have imagined how big the event is again at the end.
The WSOP began to grow in the early eighties, when the satellites were presented with lower minimum purchases. This meant that even the players who could not with the fee of $ 10,000 had the opportunity to play at the event. And the number of players entered in the competition continued to grow. In 2006 nearly 9000 players participated in the main event. One explanation for this was the Internet by satellite. A lot of poker sites offering satellites to the WSOP and you may qualify for a really cheap way. Many players dream of winning the big one. It is a sure way to have your name enters the history books and the fame and fortune that come with it do not make it less appealing.
